Fighting Flamingo Style

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Last night, I was surprised and delighted to find out that I had won third prize in the Advanced/Color/Open Topic division of the Photo Venture Camera Club contest for January!  Though I am not sure exactly how many entries were in my category, there were over 100 total entries in this contest, all of which were absolutely beautiful images.   The image below was my winning submission.  I took this photograph at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, IL on a recent vacation with my husband.  There must have been anxiety in the air that day, because it was the same day I photographed a kangaroo fight!  Although I’ll never know what these flamingos were upset about, I loved watching them bicker.  As an animal lover myself, I am happy to report that no flamingos were harmed in the making of this photo!

Alexandria & Daniel – December 27, 2009

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Alexandria and Daniel had a magical wedding full of love, snow, and happiness.  Their ceremony was in a beautiful place in Plainfield, IN called Morning Star Chapel, and their reception was at the historic Rathskeller restaurant in downtown Indianapolis.  If there was one central theme I took away from this wedding, it was love- not just between the couple, but coming from all the wonderful family and friends who came to share the day with them.

Man’s Best Friends – Zach and Zoe

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

On a recent trip to Washington DC, my husband and I got to spend time with Tim, my uncle-in-law, and his beautiful canine family.  They made room for us in their home and really made our vacation special.  The minute we arrived it became obvious that Zach and Zoe were more than just pets, they were beloved members of the family!  I can identify with this situation, as I personally live with three beautiful cats and a mischievous little chinchilla, all of whom I love dearly.  It’s my belief that every family should have portraits of all their children, human and animal alike, so one morning during our visit we made time for an outdoor portrait session with these two amazing dogs.

Christmas In July – In December

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

With all the yule tide cheer in the air this time of year, I felt like revisiting a “Christmas in July” wedding I photographed this year.  Of all the weddings I’ve attended, this was one that I’ll not soon forget.  Jen and Barry (bride and groom) had been planning this wedding for years, patiently waiting until the year 2009 when July 25 happened to fall on a Saturday so they could celebrate Christmas in July.  They had planned amazing details, decorations, and surprises for their wedding day, and I loved every minute of it!
