Pictures in the Park With Garrett & Elliott

Monday, October 19th, 2009

October is a great month for portraits.  The leaves are changing, the weather is crisp, and people are starting to look for Christmas/Holiday gift ideas.  So on a classic October morning I headed to Garfield park to meet Garrett and Elliott, their father, and their dog.  We had so much fun at the park playing, exploring, and making photographs.

The Bride’s Guide to Hiring the Perfect Wedding Photographer

Wedding Photography Indianapolis IN

Everything changes after getting engaged.  I know from personal experience that a girl who has never before cared much about clothes and fancy parties can quickly turn into a bride who agonizes over finding the perfect dress, the perfect rings, the perfect venues and even the perfect wedding invitations.  But regardless of whether you decide you can’t live without the monogrammed napkins or if your style calls for a simple but elegant wedding, your wedding day will be one of the most amazing, emotional days of your life.  You will want to remember every detail of this day for years to come, and you will want a keepsake to look back on and to share with your children and grandchildren years from now.  It is so important to find a photographer who will capture every detail your wedding day with style, because the day will come and go before you know it, and you’ll be left with happy memories and your wedding pictures.   Because wedding photographs last a lifetime, I truly believe the wedding photographer is the second most important decision you will make for your wedding (of course the most important decision is your spouse-to-be!).  But if you’re not a photographer or a photo-enthusiast yourself, you may not know what to look for in finding the perfect wedding photographer.  I’ve put together a checklist you can use to help find a photographer that will give you wedding photographs to treasure for a lifetime.

The Wedding: Becky & Marc

Greenwood Indiana Wedding Photographer

This summer I had the privilege of being an assistant photographer at Becky & Marc’s wedding at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis.  Every detail was planned with care to make theirs a truly beautiful wedding.   Even the weather cooperated- the forecast was for rain all day, but the clouds broke for a few hours and we were able to make some photographs outside in the sunshine.  I’d like to give a special thanks to Karen Bowling Photography for having me assist in this wedding, and to the happy couple for agreeing to let me post some of the photographs I took at their wedding!

Nephew’s First Baby Pictures

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

If you know me, you’ve certainly heard me going on about my first nephew, Noah.

Newborn Infant Baby Portrait Picture Hospital

Noah was born on July 28th to my sister-in-law Susan and her husband Justin.  As soon as we got the “ok” to visit, my husband and I drove to the hospital with my mother-in-law to meet the newest addition to our family.  Of course we were all in love with him instantly!  After spending some time just taking it all in, I instinctively went to my camera, because that’s what I do in almost all important moments.  I took quite a few pictures that day, but this one shown above was my favorite.

Bees At Work

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

During a much needed, and much enjoyed afternoon spent in my garden today, I noticed this bee taking care of business on this beautiful orange flower. He was more patient than most humans are while I got out my camera, framed the shot, and took his photograph.

To get in really close for the two photographs above, I used my Lensbaby Composer with the macro attachment.  I had to get in very close to make the picture, here I was only one or two inches away from the bee.

To get a clearer representation of the flower here, I switched to my Nikon 70-200mm lens.  I later cropped this photograph to get the framing that I wanted but was not able to get originally due to limitations of the lens.

Indianapolis, The City Where We Live

Monday, August 17th, 2009

This weekend I spent about an hour walking around downtown Indianapolis.  I have spent countless hours photographing this city over the years, but somehow it never gets old and there are always new photographs waiting to be taken.  This one below is certainly new, the police haven’t even finished cleaning it up yet!

Shattered

On another street in the vacant building that was once a restaurant, people leave their mark in the thick grime that clouds the windows.

Save Us

These two small statues are positioned accross from one another separated by a large fountain at a small park near the Scottish Rite Cathedral.  I have seen them before, but I just now noticed that one is listening to the other.

Sweet Song

I Hear You

Something about the angles in this alley fascinated me.
